Confirmation in the Episcopal Church is thought of as an adult affirmation of faith. Since our church has infant baptism as well as baptism at any age, confirmation is the opportunity to reaffirm promises that were made on your behalf if you were baptized as a child. People pursuing Confirmation need to be at least 16 years old. Adults coming into the Episcopal Church from another tradition will be either confirmed or received, depending on the tradition and whether or not that tradition has a formal relationship with the Episcopal Church. Lutherans and Roman Catholics who have been confirmed in their respective traditions are always received. Others will generally be confirmed. Everyone pursuing Confirmation or reception receives instruction in the structure and governance of the Episcopal Church.
