In the Community

Mission Outreach at St. John’s is a demonstration of living our values and putting faith in action by returning to God a portion of all the time, talent, and treasure that we have been given by God.  We do this by supporting a number of organizations locally, nationally, and internationally.  Some of these organizations that we support with our time and talent are shown below.

For more than 37 years, Gleaners Community Food Bank has been “feeding hungry people and nourishing our communities.” Last year, Gleaners distributed 41 million pounds of emergency food to more than 550 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties.

Of every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 94 cents for food and food programs. One dollar provides three meals for a hungry neighbor.

Crossroads Ministry

Three Sundays each year, a team of parishioners prepares and serves a meal at the Crossroads Soup Kitchen in Detroit. Other parishioners volunteer in the social service offices on a regular basis to assist clients with food and clothing distribution, medical prescriptions, obtaining proper IDs and other related services. To volunteer, please contact Dick Bass here or see the Crossroads website for more information.
