Maundy Thursday
Thursday, April 1st, 6:30 PM – on Zoom only

On this day we remember the Last Supper of Christ with his disciples and observe his commandment to love one another by washing each other’s feet. (The Mandatum) This service will be on Zoom only, broadcast from inside the church. To observe the foot-washing, we will have a short video of a 3rd grade class washing each other’s feet. We then proceed to an Agape’ Meal. Although the House of Bishops has been quite clear that it is not valid to consecrate bread and wine over the internet for Eucharist, we will share a common meal of bread, wine/grape juice, and a stew or hearty soup while linked on Zoom.

Please prepare ahead – Whatever menu you prepare will be just fine! During the brief meal, a reading from The Last Week by Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan will be read. After the meal we recite Psalm 22 while the altar is stripped and the bread consecrated for communion on Good Friday is placed on the Altar of Repose. All leave in silence.

Good Friday
Friday, April 2nd – 12:30 PM – Parking Lot and on Zoom

On this day we remember the crucifixion with the most solemn of our liturgies. We will worship in the parking lot (weather permitting) and on Zoom. The presider (and servers) approach the altar in silence and kneel (or prostrate themselves) before the altar. After a moment of prayer, the presider stands and offers the collect of Good Friday. At the gospel, a narrative reading of The Passion of our Lord, Jesus Christ according to John is offered by parishioners. A sermon is preached. The Solemn Collects are sung in dialogue by a priest and a deacon. The Cross is processed through the parking lot and a time for veneration is observed. Communion from the sacrament consecrated and reserved the previous evening is offered. Masks and social distancing will be required of all. “Were you there when they crucified my Lord” is sung. All depart in silence.

Holy Saturday
Saturday, April 3rd – 10:00 AM – Zoom only

The proper liturgy of Holy Saturday, which is very brief and marks Jesus’ descent into hell (the ‘harrowing’ of Hell), is offered this morning on Zoom only. The service takes about 15 minutes. This liturgy marks our waiting for the dawn of the ‘third day’ after Jesus’ descent into Hell (see Apostles’ Creed).

The Rt. Rev. Bonnie A. Perry , bishop of the Diocese of Michigan
invites you to a Diocesan Celebration of

The Great Easter Vigil

SATURDAY, APRIL 3, 8PM

Streamed live on edomi.org/easter

Join with the whole diocesan household as we begin our celebration of Easter and renew our Baptismal Vows.

One dramatic main feature of the Vigil is when the words, ‘Alleluia, Christ is risen’ are proclaimed for the first time… the lights come on… and the Song of Praise is sung while everybody rings bells… recreating the sound of the ‘Gates of Hell’ being broken by Jesus, for all time and for all humankind!

On this day, the ‘Queen of Feasts,’ we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord with the Easter Eucharist in our parking lot (weather permitting) and on Zoom. After a procession to the altar outside (with incense) and hymns we find every way possible to shout our ‘Alleluias’ and join with Christians worldwide as we rejoice in the resurrection of Jesus and what it means for all humankind throughout all the ages. Special music…special sermon…joyful hearts make this day truly be “The Queen of Feasts.”
